Timex Camp 2014
I was thrilled to head south to sunny Bradenton, Florida to see my Timex family. We were privileged to stay at IMG Academy (formerly Nick Bollettieri’s Tennis Academy). As soon as I arrived on campus, it brought back amazing high school memories. When I was a freshman in high school, I trained at Van Der Meer Tennis Academy for four years. I will never forget those formative years and am so grateful for the sacrifices my parents made for my brother, sister, and me.
This is my fourth year on the team, and camp is always a highlight of the year. A ton of hard work, meticulous planning, and behind the scenes work goes into camp and Tristan nailed it all. I will be quick to note that camp is not a training camp, but we had some time to train. The main focus of camp is on team bonding, learning about new products, and how to become better ambassadors. A sponsor relationship needs to be mutually beneficial. So often, however, athletes over-simplify the process of procuring sponsorship by focusing solely on what they get and what they have to endorse. But being a good brand ambassador goes far beyond simply increasing revenue for a company or acting like a billboard for the product. It’s about developing relationships with sponsors and the community at large. It’s about being authentic, positive, and passionate. Athletes bring credibility to the brands they represent when they develop a deeper connection to consumers, engage with their followers, and take action in their community. One of the most amazing aspects of the Timex Team is that the team is not only comprised of such rock star athletes, but even more importantly, incredible people who represent sponsors with authenticity, loyalty, and passion.
Now it is time to share some highlights of our team camp in pictures. 🙂

Miles and miles of soft surface trails with my teammates:
Being dragged out of my bed for early morning painful 800’s on this gorgeous track:
Fun banquet celebration honoring fellow team members and listening to incredible teammates’ stories:
Being inspired by gold medalist Victoria Arlen (victoriaarlen.com)Â who turned tragedy into triumph and is rocking her disability:
Tennis with Superman (aka Tim Hola):
And my favorite part of camp, team bonding:
I am so grateful for my amazing sponsors and inspiring teammates.
